Before you can start labeling content, you need to make sure that you have something to label! If you haven't done that, read about how to add content to your Content Library. Once you have content, though, you are ready to start adding labels.
What are Labels
If you've used other web-based applications, you might be familiar with tags. Labels are a specific implementation of tags which the Vendorful team developed to improve answer quality while offering maximal flexibility. Fundamentally, a label gives you, the user, the ability to specify which pieces of content will be used/not used when responding to a questionnaire or asking your AI Assistant a question. Let's look at a couple of use cases.
Use Case 1: Multiple Products
There are many companies that offering more than one product. This might be a company the different physical products, a software company with different offerings, a consulting company with multiple specialties, etc. For the sake of simplicity, let's imagine a company that sells Widgets and Sprockets. They are all manufactured at the same facilities, undergo the same rigorous testing, and comply with the same safety standards. But while they share a lot in common, they are two distinct products.
In this scenario, the company might want to have a number of different labels. Some ideas could be:
- widgets
- sprockets
- manufacturing
- safety
Use Case 2: Varied Positioning
In other cases, a company might offer the same product but position it differently based on the market. That market could be a geography, an industry vertical, or anything else. Here, we'll imagine that the same product is sold in the USA and the UK, but the positioning is different for each market. Some considerations for labels might include
- product-USA
- product-UK
- product-general
Adding Labels
Once you're ready to add Labels, click to access your Content Library. You should see a list of content items: documents, spreadsheets, URLs. Identify the content item to which you want to add a Label and click it. On the next page, towards the top, you will see a link that reads "Manage Content Source Labels."
Clicking that link will result in a text box/dropdown menu being shown.
Now all you need to do is start typing. If there is Label that matches what you're typing, you can click on it and it will be applied to the content item. If you want to create a new Label, just keep typing and you will be prompted to click to create it. Here's what that looks like for a new Label named "product." You would click where it reads Create "Product."
Multiple Labels
In some cases, you might want to add more than one Label to a content item. Vendorful supports this and there are no hard limits on the number of Labels that can be applied. We just encourage you to be thoughtful as the Labeling scheme you use will directly impact answer quality.
Removing Labels
In the event that a content item was mislabeled or you've updated your Labeling scheme and want to change the current Label(s) on a content item, you simply need to access the content item again via your Content Library. Again, you will click Manage Content Source Labels as described previously.
For a content item that has a Label, you will now see something like this:
To remove the Label, simply click the encircled "x." The Label will be removed. You can re-add it or any other Label(s) via the same interface.
